WHAT YOU’LL DO: ABOUT THE POSITION

The Accounts Payable Accounting Associate (APAA) serves a vital role within the Agency by providing detailed and accurate administration of our key accounts payable processes.  As a member of our Finance Team, the APAA supports the Agency through meticulous financial processing of expenses, payables, payroll, and commissions.

This integral position is responsible for efficiently and accurately completing all tasks related to: 

  • Agency Bill Statements – Review and reconcile Agency bill statements, confirming insurance premium due and agency commission income amounts are accurate   
  • Outgoing Payments – Process all requests for disbursements including general vendors, insurance customers and agent reimbursements
  • Payroll Processing – Responsible for bi-weekly processing of employee payroll with the aid our of our third-party payroll provider 
  • Agent Commission Processing – Review and process monthly commissions for agents 
  • Credit Card Management – Administer Agency credit card program including recording of expense receipts and monthly reconciliation of credit card statement
  • Banking – Management and reconciliation of Operating and Trust banking accounts 
  • Assisting with employee benefit enrollment and management
  • Performing other financial activities and ad hoc projects as needed
  • Handle sensitive financial information with the utmost discretion and integrity

WHAT YOU’LL BRING: COMPETENCIES

  • 1-3 years of experience in an Accounts Payable or similar role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • You like technology and can quickly learn new software systems
  • Able to discreetly handle confidential information with the highest level of integrity
  • High degree of attention to detail 
  • Strong analytic abilities and vigilant in checking for errors and inaccuracies
  • Very organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Friendly and outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively 
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles

HELPFUL ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Prior insurance or sales agency background
  • Prior payroll or commission processing experience
  • AMS 360/Vertafore or other insurance software experience

WHAT TO EXPECT: BENEFITS AND SCHEDULE

  • Full time position – 40 hours per week
  • Flexible hybrid or in-person opportunity; position may require periodic time spent at our office in Jenison, MI
  • Hourly rate of $22.50
