The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has kicked off its annual Brake Safety Week, running from August 24–30, 2025.
During this event, inspectors across North America will perform brake-focused inspections on commercial motor vehicles, emphasizing the importance of brake system maintenance. This year’s special focus is on brake drums and rotors, key components that affect braking efficiency and safety.
Vehicles with no critical violations may receive a CVSA decal, while those with out-of-service issues will be sidelined until repairs are made. In addition to inspections, educational efforts are underway to raise awareness among drivers and carriers about proactive brake maintenance.

Some participating jurisdictions have performance-based brake testers (PBBT), which is a device that assesses the braking performance of vehicles. Those jurisdictions may elect to utilize their PBBTs during Brake Safety Week.
The Alliance will report the results later this year.
